Michelin’s Pilot Tire sets a new standard for high-performance general aviation aircraft tires
• With its extra-long tire life, the Michelin Pilot tire is Michelin’s #1 General Aviation tire.
• The advanced carcass technology provides exceptional strength and durability.
• 6.00-6 size will fit a large population of general aviation aircraft in the market today.
GREENVILLE, S.C., March 13, 2023 – As Michelin’s 135-year history proves, the company never stops innovating. The Michelin Pilot Tire, Michelin’s latest high-performance bias tire designed to be the best tire money can buy for general aviation aircraft, helps provide an exceptional level of strength and durability across a wide variety of aircraft on the market today.
The Michelin Pilot tire includes extra-deep skid depth to help provide enhanced and extended tire life. The Michelin Pilot tire tread skid depth gives the Michelin Pilot tire a skid depth up to 21% deeper than the Goodyear Flight Custom III tire, allowing more landings.
The Michelin Pilot tire’s optimized tread architecture also helps provide for a true track taxi, takeoff and landing. On August 8th, 2023 the FAA updated Michelin’s Supplemental Type Certificate to add additional part numbers for the Michelin Air, Aviator, and Pilot tire to the application table.
“For Michelin to receive a Supplemental Type Certificate encompassing such a wide range of general aviation aircraft is truly revolutionary,” said Amanda Murphy, Global Segment Lead, General Aviation, Michelin North America, Inc. “As the new flagship tire size, the 6.00-6, the Michelin Pilot tire will continue to expand the life and durability of general aviation tires, allowing pilots to spend less time on maintenance and more time enjoying flying.”
The all weather protection in the Michelin Pilot tire is designed for long-term ozone and UV light protection, as well as excellent hydroplane resistance. Due to its extensive manufacturing process, the Michelin Pilot tire offers built-in balance, smoother taxiing and even tire wear, creating exceptional balance for both taxiing and landing.
“The new 6.00-6 size is available now,” Murphy said. “Coupled with our already available 5.00-5 size, this new size will have a positive impact on the total cost of ownership and operation for general aviation aircraft and the discerning aircraft owner/pilot.”
