GREENVILLE, S.C., September 24, 2020 — Michelin has been ranked in the top five companies by Forbes magazine among the best employers in South Carolina. As a sustainable mobility company headquartered in South Carolina for more than 45 years, Michelin is committed to creating a better way forward for its customers, communities and employees.
As the only tire manufacturer represented on the list in South Carolina, Michelin was ranked No. 4 based on the results of an annual survey conducted by market research company Statista from October 2019 to May 2020.
“One of the key attributes that attracted Michelin to South Carolina was the presence of a skilled and talented workforce,” said Dave Stafford, chief human resources officer at Michelin North America. “More than 45 years later, having a highly skilled workforce continues to be essential to Michelin’s success – and for the success of our state and our region.”
With 12 sites in South Carolina, Michelin employees more than 9,000 corporate and production employees across the state. From high-performance passenger tires to giant mining tires used across the globe, Michelin manufactures a variety of products that contribute to the economic output in the state. In fact, Michelin produces 46 tires every minute in South Carolina.
Michelin is focused on workforce development through the Michelin Technical Scholars program and Youth Apprenticeship program. Both programs provide high school and technical school students with a real-world application of their studies in a Michelin facility.
Michelin is committed to fostering strong community relationships. Partnering with 12 schools across South Carolina, the Michelin Challenge Education program provides support to public Title 1 elementary schools in the form of tutors, mentors, lunch buddies and financial contributions. Michelin’s annual charity golf tournament has generated more than $8 million since its inception in 1989 and benefits 10 charitable organizations. The Michelin Corporate Foundation also supports fundraising campaigns throughout the state.
In addition to immersive training programs that offer employees opportunities to grow and advance, Michelin provides business resource groups that are created and led by employees who have shared life experiences across various diversity dimensions. The goal of each group is to help employees feel welcome and included, support employee engagement, encourage professional development, and support business objectives.
