One of the premier global mobility design competitions has announced its theme for 2022. Entering its 22nd year, Movin’On Challenge Design, formerly Michelin Challenge Design, is a competition driven by Movin’On, the leading co-innovation ecosystem for sustainable mobility.
“Technology has transformed society’s expectations into a global culture that demands the rapid delivery of goods. The future of mobility must be more than simply moving people and goods; the evolving world demands delivery of services to all people,” said Mike Marchand, partnerships director, Movin’On Summit.
The 2022 Movin’On Challenge Design task is to design a mobility solution to provide essential services to all people in a safe, efficient and sustainable way.
“Nearly 30% of the world’s population lives outside urban centers and an equal number reside in economically depressed urban areas with sub-standard infrastructure. We must ensure services, including essential services, are readily available to people with limited access to transportation,” said Nick Mailhiot, Movin’On Challenge Design chairman.
“The 2022 challenge is to identify the people or communities that your solution would serve, including research, and how it will improve their quality of life. The mobility solution should build on the foundation of inclusive design to enhance the human experience and not simply to make services more convenient to those who already have access. Then illustrate how the solution will deliver services to people,” Mailhiot said.
Artists, designers, engineers, architects, city planners and creatives worldwide are invited to enter either in teams or individually.
The competition opens on Sept. 1, 2021 and closes March 1, 2022. Entries are judged by a prestigious international jury, including heads of advanced design for major mobility organizations.
The three winners will be announced in 2022 at the future Movin’On event.
Since its inception in 2000, Movin’On Challenge Design has received more than 14,000 entries from 134 countries. Recent winners and Judge’s Award recipients have included university and graduate program students, professional designers, engineers, architects, futurists and cross-functional teams.
