Michelin Unveils the MICHELIN Air X Tire for the Airbus A350-XWB Range

The MICHELIN Air X tire with NZG technology was selected by Airbus as original equipment for its new A350-XWB twinjet range, comprising the A350-800 and A350-900 models.

The passenger versions will be able to seat between 270 and 412 people while the planned freighter version will have a 90-tonne payload. Entry into service will be staggered between 2014 and 2017, depending on the version. More than 600 orders have already been placed.

NZG radial technology has enabled Michelin to offer a new line of aircraft tires certified for the Airbus A350 models with features that deliver the following comparative advantages:

  • Up to 30% more FOD resistance, which improves business efficiency for fleets and private operators flying Airbus A350s.
  • Up to a 10% reduction in weight compared with nylon radials, which translates into significant fuel savings for airlines.
  • Up to a 30% increase in the number of landings compared with nylon radials, which means less maintenance downtime for aircraft manufacturers.
  • Michelin tires with NZG radial technology also deliver up to $10,000 in TCO savings per year per plane compared with an equivalent radial nylon tire.

MICHELIN Air X radial tires with NZG technology are available in the following sizes:

  • 1050x395R16/28/245
  • 1400xx530R23/42/235

Michelin Unveils the MICHELIN Air X Tire for the Bombardier CSeries Range

The MICHELIN Air X tire has been selected by Bombardier, with Michelin as sole supplier on the assembly line for its new CSeries twinjet range, comprising the CS100 and CS300 models.

With capacity to seat between 100 and 130 people, the new models are scheduled to enter service in 2014. More than 180 orders have already been placed.

As a preferred partner, Michelin was duty-bound to provide its best technology to help make the Bombardier CSeries a success. Not only is Bombardier fitting its regional airliners with radial tires for the first time, Michelin is taking performance to the next level by equipping the CSeries with MICHELIN Air X tires using NZG technology.

NZG radial technology has enabled Michelin to make the Bombardier CSeries aircraft safer to operate and to deliver the following competitive advantages:

  • Up to 50% more FOD resistance, thereby increasing treadlife.
  • Up to a 25% reduction in weight compared with a cross-ply tire, which translates into significant fuel savings for airlines.
  • Up to a 100% increase in the number of landings compared with a cross-ply tire, which means less maintenance downtime for aircraft manufacturers.
  • Up to $20,000 in TCO savings per year per plane (i.e. up to a 24% reduction in TCO) compared with an equivalent conventional cross-ply fitment.

MICHELIN Air X radial tires with NZG technology are available in the following sizes:

  • 27x8.5R12/16/225
  • H42x15.0R21/26/225
