Michelin Reveals List of Incredible, Affordable Restaurants in New York City

130

Brooklyn scores most newly recognized Bib Gourmands

NEW YORK (Nov. 11, 2016) – Today Michelin released its 2017 list of restaurants in New York City who have earned the Bib Gourmand distinction in the new edition of the MICHELIN Guide.

For the 12th edition of the famous red restaurant guide, Michelin reviewed more than 855 restaurants across New York’s diverse culinary scene and selected 28 new restaurants to includein the coveted list of Bib Gourmands. The Bib Gourmand distinction is used to highlight restaurants that not only offer great food for good value but are also personal favorites of Michelin’s famously anonymous inspectors.

Of the new restaurants joining this year’s list, a high number are in Brooklyn’s domain with such notables offering unique cuisine as the Filipino Manila Social Club, the Peruvian Llama Inn, Mexican El Atoradero and Middle Eastern Glasserie.  In all, there are 34 different types of cuisine represented in the Bib Gourmand list alone.

Diners can delight in vegan pizza at 00 + Co, devour hand-rolled sushi at DOMODOMO and be transported to Singapore’s Hawker Centers at Chomp Chomp. Across the rest of New York, popular hotspots such as Achille’s Heel in Williamsburg, Greg Baxtrom’s Olmsted in Park Slope, Harlem’s Oso and Arharn Thai in Queens. All have caught the inspector’s attention for their inspirational and creative offerings and a reasonable price and are included on this year’s list.

The announcement of New York’s Bib Gourmand restaurants comes one week prior to the announcement of the starred restaurants and market availability of the MICHELIN Guide New York 2017 on Nov. 17th.

Bib Gourmands are selected by Michelin’s anonymous food inspectors and represent restaurants that serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).

While the famous Michelin stars remain the most celebrated international distinction in the MICHELIN Guide, the Bib Gourmand is a highly desired honor among restaurateurs and one that is recognized by the many people who covet quality food at a reasonable price.

Michelin’s anonymous inspectors regularly dine across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island to make their choices for the Bib Gourmands and the other selections in the MICHELIN Guide New York. These local inspectors are trained to scrupulously apply the same time-tested methods used by Michelin inspectors for many decades throughout the world. This ensures a uniform, international standard of excellence.  As a further guarantee of complete objectivity, Michelin inspectors always pay all their bills in full.
