GREENVILLE, S.C. (Feb. 13, 2014) – Michelin North America today announced plans to host a tire art contest as part of Upstate International, a monthlong series of community events and activities that celebrate the cultural diversity of South Carolina’s Upstate. The winning entry will receive $5,000 to donate to an Upstate-area school or registered nonprofit organization (501c3) of choice. .
Michelin, along with Clemson University and the International Center of the Upstate, is a presenting sponsor of Upstate International. Returning for its second year, Upstate International will be held throughout March.
“It’s an honor to participate in and support Upstate International,” said Leesa Owens, director of community relations for Michelin North America. “Last year’s inaugural showing was a great success, and as we considered ways to enhance the initiative this year, an art contest that highlights the cultural fabric of our community seemed like a winning idea. We look forward to seeing the creativity that goes into these entries.”
Michelin’s In-TIRE-National Art Contest is open to all legal residents of South Carolina who reside in the Upstate area. Contestants can participate as individuals or as teams from schools, universities, businesses and non-profit organizations. Registered participants will receive four scrapped tires donated by Michelin. Participants will have three weeks to craft works of art that incorporate an international theme.
