Date set for MICHELIN Guide Toronto selection event

The first selection for the MICHELIN Guide Toronto will be in the spotlight at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Toronto’s historic Evergreen Brick Works.

Chefs will learn in real time whether their restaurant teams have earned MICHELIN Stars, Bib Gourmands or other MICHELIN Guide distinctions.

“This is a very special moment – the first MICHELIN Guide selection revelation in Canada!” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “We are ready to reveal the best and brightest establishments in Toronto – a diverse city full of outstanding dining spots. Our inspectors found several elite restaurants and are eager to celebrate the chefs and their teams.”

In May, Toronto became the first MICHELIN Guide destination in Canada and sixth in North America. Five are in the United States: New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, California and Miami/Orlando/Tampa. In July, Vancouver was named the Guide’s seventh North American destination.

As an international mobility company, Michelin published its first “Red Guide” in the U.S. in 2005 with the New York City edition.

Recognized globally for excellence and quality, the MICHELIN Guide offers a selection of world-class restaurants.

  • The famous One, Two and Three Stars identify establishments serving exceptional cuisine rich in flavor and infused with the personality of a talented chef.
  • The Bib Gourmand is a designation given to select restaurants that offer good quality food for good value – often known as personal favorites among the inspectors when dining on their own time.
  • The MICHELIN Green Star honors restaurants at the forefront of practices committed to a more sustainable gastronomy.
  • Recommended restaurants and special awards are also highlighted by MICHELIN Guide inspectors.

The MICHELIN Guide remains a reliable companion for any traveler seeking a great meal. The guides were first published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage tire sales by giving practical advice to French motorists. Michelin’s inspectors still use the same criteria and manner of selection that were used by inspectors in the very beginning, now applied to Guides in 39 countries around the world.

The Toronto restaurant selections will join the MICHELIN Guide selection of hotels, which features the most unique and exciting places to stay in Toronto and around the world. Visit the MICHELIN Guide website, or download the free app for iOS and Android, to book unforgettable hotels and make restaurant reservations through partners OpenTable, Resy and SevenRooms.
