Michelin announces 2016 list of best restaurants offering good value in New York City

Brooklyn, Queens home to the most new Bib Gourmands awarded restaurants in New York City

NEW YORK (Sept. 24, 2015) – Today Michelin published its selection of restaurants in New York City that have earned the Bib Gourmand distinction in the MICHELIN Guide.  The 133 restaurants making this 2016 list includes 27 new choices.

Michelin_Guide_2016.jpgThe Bib Gourmand represents restaurants where diners can enjoy quality food at attractive prices. This year’s Bib Gourmand list welcomes 27 new restaurants and features 18 different types of cuisine.  Significantly, many newly recognized restaurants are located in Brooklyn and Queens, highlighting this year again the continuing trend of quality dining emerging throughout all of New York’s boroughs.

“From Casa del Chef Bistro, a charming father and daughter run restaurant in Woodside serving contemporary cuisine, to the Gregory’s 26 Corner Taverna in Astoria, with Greek cooking, Queens is a must for diners wanting to experience a wide variety of the world’s different cuisines” said Michael Ellis, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide. “This year’s selection put a light on just how exciting and dynamic New York City’s dining scene is today”.

Bib Gourmands are awarded by Michelin’s anonymous inspectors to restaurants that serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).

Year after year, the Bib Gourmand selection has proven very popular with the public, which is always looking for good deals, as well as with restaurant operators, many of whom are delighted to fill this market niche.

The release of New York City’s Bib Gourmand selection comes one week prior to the launch of the 11th edition of the MICHELIN Guide New York City on September 30, which will be on sale on October 1.

Michelin’s anonymous inspectors regularly dine across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island to make their choices for the Bib Gourmands and the other selections in the MICHELIN Guide New York City. These local inspectors are trained to scrupulously apply the same time-tested methods used by Michelin inspectors for many decades throughout the world. This ensures a uniform, international standard of excellence.  As a further guarantee of complete objectivity, Michelin inspectors always pay all their bills in full.
